Cosa: Approaches to model transformation by graph transformation
Model transformation is a central concept in Model-Driven Development
(MDD). It is receiving even more attention with the advent of specific MDD
proposals, such as the MDA (Model-Driven Architecture) promoted by the OMG
and its language for queries, views and transformations QVT. Model (to
model) transformation consists of translating a source model conformant to
a meta-model, into a target model conformant to a possibly different
meta-model.
In the context of MDD, model transformation may be used to map platform
independent models to platform specific ones, for simulation or animation,
optimization, analysis of the target model, etc. Many specialized
languages for model transformation exist, ranging from textual to visual;
from declarative to imperative through hybrid; and semi-formal to formal.
Some of these techniques are more appropriate for in-place transformations
(like animation or optimization), while others are more suitable for
model-to-model transformation.
In this presentation we will introduce a specific approach to model
transformation: graph transformation. This formalism will be used for
specifying in-place transformations, such as simulation or optimizations.
We will also review graph transformation based approaches for
model-to-model transformation, in particular Triple Graph Grammars and
pattern-based transformation.

Title: Face Recognition in real scenarios
Speaker: Enver Sangineto
ABSTRACT
Automatic recognition of face images is one of the most studied research
problems in image analysis and understanding, especially during the past several
years. One of the reasons which accounts for this trend is the growing necessity
of law enforcement applications, such as video-surveillance systems or
biometric-based access control methods. Despite more than 30 years of research
in this field, current face recognition systems are accurate only in “laboratory
situations”, imposing constraints on illumination changes or in head pose
parameters.
In this talk we give a brief introduction to the above domain, showing the main
approaches to face recognition and their current limitations; an overview of
general-purpose face recognition is provided and, later, we describe a method
for automatic localization of particular facial components (“landmarks”).
Accurate landmark localization is one of the open problems in face recognition,
since reference points on the analyzed head allow both to perform reliable
face-to-face comparison and to compute pose parameters: the system described in
this talk is a work in progress.
